GoodBarber apps can now display the public posts of a Bluesky or Mastodon account, with their images and their links. Two new sources for Article sections do it, and neither needs an API key. A local newspaper that posts its breaking news on both networks no longer has to copy it into its app by hand.
Bluesky and Mastodon, two new sources for your app's articles
The short version. Bluesky and Mastodon are two extensions of GoodBarber, the no-code app builder, that turn the public posts of an account into articles in your app. You enter the account, and its posts arrive on their own, with images, link previews and quoted posts, while replies and reposts stay on the network. Both are free for Content apps: each section counts as one of the extensions included in your plan.
The audience is there. Bluesky grew from 25.94 million to 41.41 million users in 2025, according to its 2025 transparency report, published on January 29, 2026. Here is how the two sources play out for a local newspaper with an account on each network.
How do you show your Bluesky posts in your app?
In a GoodBarber app, a Bluesky section is an Article section whose source is a Bluesky account. The newspaper adds one, chooses Bluesky and enters its account: yournewspaper.bsky.social. The field also takes @yournewspaper.bsky.social, the profile address on bsky.app, or the newspaper's own domain if it uses one as its handle.
Its posts arrive with what makes them readable: images, link previews and the posts they quote. Links, mentions and hashtags stay clickable. A video shows as a preview, with a link to the post on Bluesky.
Only the account's own posts come in. Replies stay on Bluesky, and so do reposts: the section reads like the newsroom's feed, not like its conversations. Posts labeled as adult content are not displayed.
One setting to check first. In Bluesky's privacy settings, an account can ask apps not to show it to logged-out users. The Bluesky section honors that request: with the option on, it does not display the account and reports a configuration error. To use the section, keep the account visible to logged-out users.
How do you show your Mastodon posts in your app?
A Mastodon section works the same way, with a Mastodon account as its source, whatever the instance that hosts it. In a second Article section, the newspaper chooses Mastodon and enters its full address: @yournewspaper@mastodon.social, yournewspaper@mastodon.social or https://mastodon.social/@yournewspaper. If it types only the name, it adds the instance in the field below: "Instance, if not included in the account (e.g. mastodon.social)".
As with Bluesky, images, link previews and quoted posts come in, while replies and boosts stay on Mastodon. The section also keeps Mastodon's own conventions. Content warnings are respected: media marked as sensitive is never shown directly in the app, and the article links to the post instead. The instance's custom emojis display as they do on Mastodon.
Some Mastodon instances do not allow reading without an account. On those, the section cannot display the account.
How do you add Bluesky or Mastodon to your GoodBarber app?
Bluesky and Mastodon are available for Content apps. They are free, like YouTube: each section counts as one of the extensions included in your plan. Open your back office and add an Article section, or start from the Bluesky and Mastodon pages of the Extension Store. Running a news app? Our news app page lists the other sources a newsroom can connect, and our guide to creating an app for newspapers covers the rest of the setup.
If your account needs something this version does not do, tell our support team from your back office, with the address of the account. That is what the next version will be built on.
