How much does a fitness app cost in 2026? Real prices

Here is the honest answer before the detail. For your fitness business, native iOS and Android apps cost $660 a year with a no-code app builder, plus $150 a year to take bookings for one-to-one sessions or $490 to sell your programs by subscription. Gym management software charges $39 to $100 a month for its branded app, on top of its own plan, and the agencies that rank on this question publish custom-build estimates from $30,000 to $600,000. The right question is not the subscription line: it is the job you hand the app. Managing class spots and payments, tracking each client's workouts, selling a video library, or publishing your content with bookable sessions are four different tools and four different bills. Every figure below was read at its source on September 24, 2026.

Five ways to get a fitness app, and what each really costs

Five ways lead to a fitness app for your business, and each is priced its own way: a flat plan, an add-on to gym software, per client, per subscriber or quoted. The table below compares what each one costs and the job it is built for.

OptionWhat it costsThe job it does
No-code app builder (GoodBarber)$36 to $135 a month, all-inclusive; native apps from $70your content, your schedule, bookable one-to-one sessions, program subscriptions
Gym management software with a branded appa plan from $75 a month, plus $39 to $100 a month for the appclass spots, waitlists, gym memberships and payments
Coaching platform$19.90 a month for 3 clients, $59.90 for 25 with a branded app, then per extra clientworkout plans and tracking for each client
Video platform for creators$449 a month billed yearly, plus $0.99 per subscriber, with iOS and Android appsa video library sold and paid for on the web
Custom development by an agencyquote-based; published estimates from $30,000 to $600,000whatever you specify, maintenance on top

Five pricing logics hide behind that table.

No-code builders charge a flat plan. You assemble the app from ready-made sections, and hosting, the database, updates and store republishing sit inside that one line. The price does not move with your number of members or subscribers. The general case is in our article on what an app costs to build without coding.

Gym software sells the app as an option on a management plan. One lists plans from $75 a month for up to 50 active members to $200 for 201 to 400, and a branded member app, listed in the App Store and Google Play under your gym's name, at $100 a month more, first month free. Another starts at $99 a month and adds its branded app for $39; a third bills $189 a month for 101 to 200 active customers, and $99 for the app. These tools do a job GoodBarber does not do: they manage class spots, waitlists, class packs and payments. If you run one, its invoice stays, whatever app you choose.

Coaching platforms charge per client. One starts at $19.90 a month for 3 clients and reaches $59.90 for 25 clients with iOS and Android apps under your own brand, then $2.40 a month per extra client. Another starts at 25 euros a month for 3 clients and sells its branded app for 95 euros, once. They build workout plans and follow each client's progress, which GoodBarber does not.

Video platforms charge per subscriber. One charges $149 a month plus $1.99 per subscriber without an app, and $449 a month plus $0.99 per subscriber with two apps, iOS and Android. Both rates are billed yearly; month to month, they are $199 and $499. These platforms stream your library and take payment on the web.

Custom development is quoted. Four agencies that rank on this question publish their own estimates: from $30,000 to $50,000 for a first version, and from over $75,000 to $600,000 for a full-featured app, with maintenance and updates to budget on top. Those are estimates, not prices paid. GoodBarber's own benchmark: a total cost of ownership about one tenth of custom development.

GoodBarber's real price list for a fitness app

Prices below come straight from GoodBarber's public pricing API on September 24, 2026, in US dollars. Full details are on the Content Apps pricing page.

PlanMonthlyYearlyWhat it means for a fitness app
Standard$36$360web app only, 5 free extensions; no Appointment booking, Memberships, Authentication or automatic push
Premium$70$660native iOS and Android apps plus the web app, 20 free extensions, 3 staff members, 30,000 push notifications a month
Pro$135$1,260unlimited extensions and staff members, 250,000 push notifications a month; Appointment booking, Memberships and Authentication included
Extension, on PremiumMonthlyYearlyOn Pro
Appointment booking$15$150included
Memberships (in-app subscriptions)$49$490included
Authentication$12$120included
Chat$20$200included
Loyalty card$8$80still paid
Club card$4$40still paid
Coupons$6$60still paid

Live Video, a one-way broadcast from your streaming provider, is free from Premium.

Now the arithmetic, job by job. Appointment booking builds slots from your opening hours, with one calendar per coach or per type of session, and takes one booking per slot with no payment: it fits the one-to-one sessions, trial sessions and assessments of a personal trainer's app, not the spots in a group class. Memberships sells access to your content, and only your content, by in-app subscription: the programs, videos and audio of a creator's app. Classes, class packs and gym memberships are paid outside the app, at the front desk or in your gym software. Authentication opens a members' area for the people who already pay you, which is what a gym or studio app needs, and the Loyalty card requires it.

Three rules follow. A native app starts at Premium, because Standard is a web app without any of those three extensions. Pro becomes the cheaper plan the day you take both Appointment booking and Memberships: $1,260 a year against $1,300 for Premium plus the two. And installing Memberships removes Authentication, User groups, Community, Chat, the Loyalty card, the Club card and Coupons, so a creator who sells programs by subscription has no loyalty card. How to build each of these apps is in our fitness app guide.

Yearly billing costs at most ten months of the monthly rate. A one-time Pro licence also exists, $4,600 for ten years.

The costs no pricing page shows

Whatever you build with, some lines come from other people.

  • Apple Developer Program: $99 a year, to publish native iOS apps in your business's name.
  • Google Play Console: $25, one time. A personal Google account created after November 13, 2023 must run a closed test with at least 12 testers opted in for 14 days before going to production; an organization account in your business's name is not subject to that.
  • The store commission on content subscriptions, detailed in the next section.
  • A domain name, which Memberships requires along with the web app. GoodBarber does not sell them.
  • Producing the content: filming, editing, voice-over, music rights. It is often the heaviest line of the budget, and no pricing page shows it.
  • Your gym software, if you keep it for class spots and payments.
  • The extensions still billed on Pro: the Loyalty card, the Club card, Coupons and the RAG Chatbot.
  • GoodBarber's publishing service, if you would rather not deal with the stores: $50 for five credits, one credit per store, and it also sets up your subscriptions in the stores.

Hosting, the database, the CMS, push notifications within your quota and statistics add no separate invoice.

What the store commission does to your subscription price

The commission touches one thing only: subscriptions to your content sold inside the app. Classes, sessions, class packs and gym memberships are paid outside the app, at the front desk, in your gym software or on your website, and no store takes anything on them.

On content subscriptions, here is what the official pages said on September 24, 2026. Apple keeps 30% during a subscriber's first year and 15% after that, or 15% from the first day if you join its App Store Small Business Program, open to developers new to the App Store and to those under $1 million in proceeds the previous year. Google Play takes 15% on auto-renewing subscriptions: in the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, a 10% service fee plus a 5% billing fee since June 30, 2026. GoodBarber takes nothing on your sales.

On a $10 monthly subscription, that means you receive $8.50 before taxes on Google Play or with Apple's Small Business Program, and $7 during a subscriber's first year with Apple outside it. Set your store price with that line in mind, and join the Small Business Program before your first sale if you qualify.

First-year budgets, by type of fitness business

Yearly billing, GoodBarber prices of September 24, 2026, store fees included.

Web app only, public content, five sections at mostStandard $360$360$360

These lines cover the subscription and the store fees. Content production, your gym software and the domain sit on top.

For a sense of scale, here is what the tools of section one cost over a year for the same job or a neighboring one, excluding taxes and payment fees: gym software with its branded app from $1,656 (a $99 plan plus a $39 app), $2,400 for 51 to 100 members at another, $3,456 for 101 to 200 customers at a third; a coaching platform at $718.80 for 25 clients, branded app included; a video platform with apps at $5,388, plus $0.99 per subscriber. These are not like-for-like comparisons. Each tool does a different job, and gym software handles the class spots and payments that GoodBarber leaves to it.

How to keep the total predictable

  • Build the app during the free trial. Thirty days, no credit card. A project without a subscription is deactivated on day 30 and deleted on day 45.
  • Pay yearly: at most ten months of the monthly rate.
  • Start at Premium and move to Pro the day you add both Appointment booking and Memberships. From then on, Pro costs less.
  • Count on no fee per member or per subscriber. GoodBarber's bill does not grow with your audience; only the store commission does, on subscriptions.
  • Put the commission in your price before you publish it in the stores.
  • Open the developer accounts in your business's name from day one, and settle the domain before you switch on Memberships.

Then settle the budget the only way that works: start the 30-day free trial, add the sections your business needs and count them. You will know which plan you need before you pay anything.
