GoodBarber x Android 16: A head start on navigation

Being part of the GoodBarber community means peace of mind in the face of ever-changing operating systems. While many developers are just beginning to think about migrating to Android 15, our teams have already deployed the GoodBarber engine update to Android 16.

Redesigned navigation, from code to use

The heart of this update lies in a thorough overhaul of rear navigation management. To align with Android 16 standards, we migrated our architecture to Google's new APIs in this area. This behind-the-scenes work, though complex due to GoodBarber's high degree of modularity, enabled us to integrate Predictive Back.

This feature lets you preview the previous screen with a simple gesture before confirming your return. It's a strong marker of modernity, even if its deployment remains subtle:

  • At the cutting edge: Predictive Back is visible to users who have enabled gesture navigation. On some devices (such as Samsung), this is still a "Labs" function, proving that your app is already ready for the future.
  • Refined logic: We've taken advantage of this redesign to respond to a request from our community. From now on, at the first navigation level, if a user "backs out" of a secondary section, he or she will no longer instantly leave the application. They will first be redirected to the home section (first menu entry), and a second "back" will allow them to exit.

This new, more fluid and secure flow adapts to all our navigation modes(Swipe, Little Swipe, Tabbar, Grid, Slate). For those who prefer the old behavior or the automatic opening of the menu at "back", these options are still available on request to our support team.

Maintenance and compliance

As usual, we have updated all third-party SDKs (statistics, advertising agencies, payment solutions). We have scrupulously ensured that these tools do not use any superfluous permissions, guaranteeing optimum lightness and security for your users.

Stay one step ahead

While Android developer forums are just coming alive with questions about Android 15, GoodBarber apps are already benefiting from Android 16 optimization. By anticipating these update cycles, we ensure that your project never falls behind technologically.

Our mission remains the same: to ensure that your apps are technically up to date with the latest SDKs and comply with legal requirements. So you can concentrate on your content and your business, and we'll take care of the rest to make sure your app is always available and performing well on the stores.
